The area that includes Sampierdarena and Belvedere is one of the most populous in Genoa. Here you can find one of the symbols not only of the area, but of the whole city: it is the famous Lanterna. It is 76 meters high and has a light beam visible up to 33 miles, it is the oldest working lighthouse in the world, the highest in the Mediterranean and certainly considered the most representative monuments by the Genoese. The lighthouse can be visited, as well as his adjoining "Museo della Lanterna".

At the opposite border of Sampierdarena lies the Fiumara Shopping Center, which includes more than a hundred shops and a multiplex cinema. Right next to this building there is also a sports hall, which hosts sports competitions, fairs and concerts of Italian and international artists throughout the year.

Going up towards the hills, you get to the Belvedere area and Promontorio. Despite the proximity to the city center, these two areas have partly preserved the rural aspect, with little streets and shortcuts that cross vegetable gardens and orchards, well known by the inhabitants of area. Along the road that connects the Promontorio to the Porta degli Angeli you will find the Castagna cemetery. In this hilly area are included some of the many Genoese forts, suggestive attraction for lovers of long walks, including Forte Belvedere, Crocetta and Tenaglia.

In the area between Sampierdarena and Belvedere there are also many buildings of artistic and cultural interest, such as Villa Grimaldi called "La Fortezza", Villa Lercari Sauli "La Semplicità", and Villa Imperiale Scassi near the third largest hospital in Genoa, after San Martino and Galliera: the Scassi Hospital, built in 1915 on the grounds of the park behind the villa. Among the many churches of the area the oldest one is the Church of San Bartolomeo di Promontorio.

In Sampierdarena there is also a typical Italian theater with a neoclassical façade that, despite its modest in size, is one of the most famous in Genoa: the Gustavo Modena Theater, inaugurated in 1857, the headquarters of the Teatro dell'Archivolto company.
