63rd Edition of the Regatta of the Repubbliche Marinare

On June 3rd the Regatta of the Antiche Repubbliche Marinare Italiane will take place in Genova Pra'. In 1955 the institution of this competition aimed to recall the ancient challenges and rivalries among the four Repubbliche marinare: Genoa, Amalfi, Pisa and Venice.

For this 63rd edition of the competition on June 2nd and 3rd there will be many events, which will end with the traditional rowing challenge among the four crews.

On June 3rd at 4 pm, the rowing challenge will be preceded by a skiff challenge and will be hosted for the first time in the Regatta Course of Genova Pra’. Moreover the Pra’ Viva Association will organize many entertaining side events. In the end the winning city of 2018 will be crowned after the rowing challenge.

The four boats representing the Repubbliche Marinare are decorated with the traditional colours of the respective cities: light blue for Amalfi, red for Pisa, white for Genoa and green for Venice.

On June 2nd he competition will be preceded by the Historical Parade with almost 250 extras, who will reenact historical episodes, performing as important personalities belonging to the maritime history of their city and representing its role in the Mediterranean area.

The parade will leave from Piazza Matteotti at 8.30 pm. The itinerary will cross the following streets: Piazza Matteotti, Via XXV Aprile, Piazza delle Fontane Marose, Via Garibaldi, Piazza della Meridiana,Via Cairoli, Largo Zecca, Via Lomellini, Piazza Fossatello, Via al Ponte Calvi , via Sottoripa, Piazza Caricamento, Via Frate Oliverio, Piazza della Raibetta, Via San Lorenzo, Piazza Matteotti.  The Sestrese Philharmonic Band will lead the parade.

Around 10.30 pm, at the end of the Historical Parade, you will be able to attend a wonderful musical fireworks display, offered by Regione Liguria, to celebrate the Festa della Repubblica and welcome the opportunity given by the Regatta of the Repubbliche Marinare and the Historical Parade.  To link these two important events, the programme of the musical fireworks display will be animated by the colours (and the sounds) of the 4 Repubbliche Marinare and will end with an homage to the Italian Republic. The show will be realized by Setti Fireworks.


How to access the regatta area
 
Access to the regatta is free throughout the promenade at sea on the north side of the Fascia di Rispetto di Pra'.
 
The gates to access the area are: from Via Aurelia, from Parco Dapelo, from Rio S. Pietro, from the railway station of Genoa Pra 'and from the roundabout via Aurelia isola Ecologica.
In the square of the Centro Remiero adjacent to the station, in addition to catering, a large screen will be available to follow the event; two others will be visible from the promenade.

How to get to Fascia di Rispetto of Pra':

Train. The Genova Pra' train station is located nearby the location of the event.

By bus. It is possibile to get to Pra' from the city centre with the AMT 1 bus line.

By car. You can get to this area by taking the A10 highway, taking the Genova Pra' exit.

On June 2nd the Tube will be accessible until 2 am.

On June 3rd the AMT 1 bus line will be reinforced to allow people to take part to the event.
