Chiesa Santissimi Cosma e Damiano

The church of Santi Cosma e Damiano, located in a cosy and picturesque corner of the Genoese old town, can be reached by walking through the typical Genoese alleys at the foot of Castello hill.

The perfectly preserved façade presents arcosolium tombs and the peculiar Barisone Tomb with a pointed arch and small columns.

The church is entirely original and dates back to the 11th century, while the nular tower, the portals and the interior arcades are from the 12th century.

The vaulted roof dates back to the late 17th century. In addition to some interesting 17th-century paintings, the interior houses the beautiful Sepulchre of the Barbers and Surgeons, of which Saints Cosmas and Damian are the protectors, dating from 1476.
