Castello D'Albertis – Museum of World Cultures

Castello D'Albertis – Museum of World Cultures

Boasting an extraordinary view over the city, this Castle was built by Captain Enrico Alberto D'Albertis (1846-1932) in the late 1800s on 16th century fortifications and was later donated by him along with the archaeological, ethnographic, and nautical artefacts he had collected during his travels on land and sea throughout the world.

After a careful restoration, the Neo-gothic dwelling, with its exotic influences and colonial allure, has been enriched with a new museum itinerary in the 16th century fortress where visitors can enjoy an updated look into the cultures of the world and into the city itself, through new donations and acquisitions from Africa, America, and Oceania. Images, stories, and sounds culminate in an area dedicated to the music of the world curated by the Echo Art cultural association.

The new permanent exhibition curated by CELSO (the Institute of Asian Studies) explores philosophy, history, and traditional medicine techniques with a particular focus on China, India, Tibet, the Arab/Muslim world, and ethnic medicine.
