Via di Prè
On the upstream side of Piazza della Commenda is Via di Prè, named after 'meadows' and a reminder of the scarce urbanization of this area in the 11th and 12th centuries.
Along the street are many four-storey mediaeval houses with hanging archways, alternating with the tall, narrow houses of later centuries.
Since the 2000s, various interventions and architectural restorations have brought the old houses back to life and colour; a few restaurants invite you to a tasty stop and numerous multi-ethnic shops.
Proceeding along the street, the road passes under the garden of the Royal Palace where the retaining wall contains the statue of the Madonna of the City (1749). At the end of Via Prè is the lively widening formed by Piazza Santa Fede and Piazza della Darsena, where Via delle Fontane ends.
