Museum of St. Augustine

Museum of St. Augustine

TheMuseum of St. Augustine will, starting in December 2019, undergo a major upgrade to some of its plant as well as some structural work. The delicate operation to make room for the construction site will, unfortunately, make it necessary to close for a period. At it’s reopening, the halls of the Palace will have been equipped with modern systems to meet the new technological needs of the exhibitions, indispensable for one of Genoa’s most important and popular museums.

At the conclusion of the work, the Museum will be ready for a reorganization that will improve  the quality of the exhibition and give the medieval masterpieces housed within its walls the appropriate emphasis, including “la Margherita” by Brabante and the “Pallio di San Lorenzo” ( currently undergoing a careful restoration).

Within the buildings of this medieval Augustinian monastery (13th century) is a museum that houses sculptures, detached Italian and Ligurian frescoes and stone artefacts dating from the 10th to 18th centuries. Alongside the works of F. M. Schiaffino, V. Castello, Domenico Piola, Luca Cambiaso, and F. Parodi are masterpieces by Giovanni Pisano, Pierre Puget.

Two new collections have recently been inaugurated: the Painting Collection, featuring a fascinating journey through Ligurian panel painting from the end of the 13th Century to the early 16th century, and the Ceramics Collection, comprising a large collection of Spanish azulejos and Mediterranean artefacts, dating from the Middle Ages to the 16th century.
